Helen Lillian Hay

Helen Lillian Hay, 94, residing in Mishawaka, Indiana passed away at 9:30 AM Friday, May 27, 2016 at Caring Junction.  Helen was born on August 16, 1921 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Steve Solmos and Eleanor (Paskiet) Solmos, and has been a lifelong resident of this area.

On June 10, 1950 at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, South Bend, she was united in marriage to Donald Hay, who preceded her in death on March 28, 1986.  Helen was a beautician and greatly enjoyed working in this community for over 60 years.  She loved gardening and being a part of the VFW and American Legion.  She attended Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Mishawaka.

Helen is survived by her two daughters, Marlis Welsch and Dana Lee, both of Osceola; five grandchildren, Michael (Colleen) Welsch of Granger, Mathew Welsch, Melissa Welsch, Nicole Lee, and Rebecca Lee, all of Osceola and one great granddaughter Elsie.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Eleanor Solmos; husband; Donald Hay; sister, Joann "Dolly” Davis; and four brothers, Robert, Steve, James, and Richard Solmos.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2016  at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Road, Mishawaka, IN 46544.  Graveside services and burial will follow at Eastlawn Cemetery, North Liberty.   Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka, IN 46615 where a rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. and one hour prior to mass on Friday.  Memorial contributions may be given to Queen of Peace Catholic Church.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
