Loretta Kay Mackey, 72, residing in South Bend, passed away on Friday, peacefully at home. She was born December 15, 1943 in Wauseon, OH to the late Lewis S. and Betty Lucille (Perkins) Blair.
On July 18, 1970 in Ft. Wayne, IN, Loretta married Harry W. Mackey, Jr., who survives. In addition to her loving husband, Loretta is survived by her daughter, Lisa Kay Downs of South Bend; son, Robert Andrew Mackey of South Bend; grandchildren, Alicia K., Jacob D. and Elijah D. Downs; sisters, Vicky (Ron) Crowe of Cave Creek, AZ, Beth (Paul) Blair-Kelley of Mishawaka and Linda (Steve) Ramsey of Pooler, GA; and brothers, David (Melody) Blair of Maryville, MO and Tim (Jodi) Blair of Denver, CO. She was preceded in death by another sister, Martha Haag. Additionally, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Carol (John) Bordon of Sylvania, OH.
Loretta was a registered nurse, working at Memorial Hospital as well as various local doctors’ offices. She was a longtime member of Clay United Methodist Church, where she was a Stephen’s Minister, volunteered with the food pantry, and was active with the choir and teaching Sunday School. She was a volunteer with Special Olympics and with the Michiana Emmaus Community. She loved gardening, spending time at their Wall Lake cottage, and cooking. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending quality time with her family, especially attending her grandchildren’s various activities. She will be immensely missed by all.
Funeral services for Loretta will be held at 11:00 am Monday, February 15, 2016 at Clay United Methodist Church, 52866 N. Ironwood Road, South Bend. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to services Monday in the church. Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
