Luella J. Smith, 88, residing in South Bend, passed away at 5:55 pm Thursday, January 28, 2016 in Creekside Village, Mishawaka. She was born July 21, 1927 in Valparaiso, IN to the late Everette C. and Gertrude I. (Kuehl) Trapp. Luella has lived in the South Bend area most of her life, retiring in 1985 from Bendix Corporation after 33 years.
Luella is survived by her daughter, Kimberly R. (Kevin) Kristl of Mishawaka; son, Karlynn J. Smith of Port Ritchie, FL; grandchildren, Brooke (Adam) Whittaker, Shauna (Steve) Olesen, Heather (Mitch) Dudeck, and Hannah, Adam and Peter Kristl; and great grandchildren, Madason, Danika, Mason, Brody and Lilliana. Additionally, she is survived by siblings, Doris M. (Donald) Layton of LaPorte, IN and Richard (Dolly) Trapp of Valparaiso, IN. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda K. Smith.
Memorial services for Luella will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, February 6, 2016 in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where friends may visit with the family from 11:00 am -1:00 pm. Burial will take place privately at Highland Cemetery.
