Peggy Jane (Willis) Habel

January 1, 1934 ~ December 14, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Peggy Jane Habel, age 83, residing in South Bend, Indiana passed away at 11:10 pm on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Hospice House, Elkhart, Indiana.  Peggy worked for the Yellow Cab Companies for thirty-eight years and Don Ray Drive Away for eight years.

Peggy was born on January 1, 1934 in Sheffield, Alabama to the late John and Hattie (Halaquist) Willis. Peggy was married to the late John Leathers in 1947 in Mississippi. Then in 1960, Peggy was united in marriage to Clarence R. Habel I,in South Bend, Indiana.  Clarence preceded her in death on September 1, 1983. 

Peggy is survived by nine children, John (Jane) Leathers of West Burlington, Iowa, Carol (Bill) Miller of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Clarence R. (Lucinda) Habel II, of Mishawaka, Peggy (Chris) Tomkiewicz of South Bend, Billy (Gracie) Habel of Jacksonville, Florida, James Habel of Elkhart, Linda (Jeff Avara) Cole of Mishawaka, Lisa (Allen) Setterblad of Elkhart and, Tina Habel of San Antonio, Texas. Her son, Thomas Leathers passed away in 1971.   Also surviving are twenty-one grandchildren, Tony (Cindi) Watson, Jeremiah McMillin, Tara McMillin, Carrie (Chris) Piechocki, Daniel (Jodi) Sheets, Kathryn Habel, Carolyn Habel, Clarence Habel III, Brennon Beach, James Cole, Jeremy Tomkiewicz, Dakota (Angelina) Habel, Dalton Habel, Jeffrey (Amanda) Avara, Mathew Avara, Trisha Cole, Mariah Cole, Ashley Cole, Brittany Habel, Raymond Cole, III, and Thomas Habel; seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.  . 

Peggy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved all her children, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her beloved Jake was a faithful companion.

Heartfelt thanks to the staff of Center for Hospice Care-Elkhart for their excellent care, and special thanks to Jessica, Shar and Kelly.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, December 18, 2017 at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN.  Bishop Sessions will officiate.  Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to services at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
