Philip Curtus Mosby Jr.

September 11, 1946 ~ December 8, 2017 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Philip Mosby Jr., 71, passed away at 6:17 p.m. on Friday, December 8th at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, after a courageous 22-year battle with cancer. Philip was born in Natchez, MS on September 11, 1946.

Philip graduated from Sadie V. Thompson High School in 1965 and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.  On February 28, 1970 in Natchez MS, Philip was united in marriage with Barbara Ann (Covington) Mosby, who survives. From this union, three beautiful children were born. He was also the owner and primary operator of Mosby’s Painting here in South Bend. Philip was a true gentleman’s gentleman. He was patient, kind and never met a stranger. He probably never made an enemy in his life. Philip was a very pure spirit.

Philip is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Barbara Ann Mosby, as well as their three children: Comeco (Cecil) Mourning, LaTonia (Tim) Ferguson and Rodney (Shaina) Mosby and five grandchildren: Bre’Aira Lipsey, Zsae’Breion Lipsey, D’Jorin Mourning, Timothy Ferguson Jr. and Philip’s namesake, Philip Curtus Mosby Jr. Ferguson.  Philip is also survived by his siblings, Leona Mosby of Stone Mountain, GA and Maurice Mosby of Perrysburgh, OH as well as siblings-in-law: Terry Covington, David Poindexter, Perry & Doris Townsend, Donnie Covington and Henry Covington Jr, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends that became family.  Philip was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Mary Mosby, sisters Katherine Owsley, Mary Herrington and Elaine Foster and brother-in-law Al Owsley.

Services for Philip will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16th at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 101 N. Adams Street, South Bend. Friends may call on the family for visitation for one hour prior to service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, the facility where Philip was genuinely cared for and loved. Palmer Funeral Homes – West Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
