Phyllis Clotine Skaggs

March 25, 1932 ~ June 26, 2015 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Phyllis Clotine Skaggs, 83 years old, passed away surrounded by family, at 2:25 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Briarcliff Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend.  Mrs. Skaggs was born on March 25, 1932 in Martha, KY to the late James Franklin and Rutha (Barker) Fraley.  She has lived in Plymouth, IN for the past three years, and lived most of her life in Eastern Kentucky and Northwest, Indiana.  Phyllis was united in marriage to William Luther Skaggs on March 17, 1954 in Skaggs, KY.  Her husband of 61 years preceded her in death on June 5, 2015. 

Mrs. Skaggs is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Chuck) Whitaker of Lakeville, IN; son, Ronald (Marge) Skaggs of Lakeville, IN; two grandchildren, Molly (Christian) Lauletta of Brownsburg, IN and Justin Whitaker of Lakeville; five step-grandchildren, Chuck Whitaker of Richmond, IN, Alisa Caldwell of McCordsville, IN, Scotty (Jenn) Merrill of Lakeville, Robbie (Janessa) Newton of Lyons, KS, and Neil Koontz of Lakeville; several great grandchildren; one sister, Levonia Stephens of Shelbyville, KY; and one brother, David (Phyllis) Fraley of Reynoldsburg, OH, and life-long friends Arlie and Betty Sparks.  Mrs. Skaggs is preceded in death by her one sister, Gladys Moore; niece, Rita; nephews, Billy Moore, John Moore, and Phillip Stephens. 

Mrs. Skaggs lived a strong Christian life and served her church for many years teaching Bible school to young children in her community. She was a very hard worker and was very proud of her and her husband’s trials and triumphs in life, including raising and sending two children to college and traveling the United States and all the providences of Canada.  She was a talented quilter and worked on many quilts with her mother.  She showed her unconditional love through her actions and demonstrated the power of true love and faith in the Lord throughout her journey with dementia.  She was a very loved woman who will be forever missed.  

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Newton Center, 801 N. Michigan Street, Lakeville, IN.  Rev. Jeff Little, pastor of Southside General Baptist Church, will officiate.  Graveside services and burial will follow at Bremen Cemetery, Bremen, IN.  Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1st, and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the Newton Center.  Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville, is assisting with funeral arrangements.
