Robert G. Martin, Sr., 89, residing in Mishawaka, passed away at 9:39 am Sunday, November 29, 2015 in the Waterford at Edison Lakes Assisted Living Community. He was born February 8, 1926 in South Bend to the late Albert and Della (McClosky) Martin.
On September 19, 1953 in South Bend, Robert married the former Carolyn L. Loutzenhiser, who survives. In addition to his loving wife of 62 years, he is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Martin) Sharp of Edwardsburg, MI; sons, Robert (Ronda) Martin, Jr. of Niles, MI and Douglas (Terry) Martin of Edwardsburg, MI; eight grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
From 1968-1996, Robert and Carolyn lived on Eagle Lake in Edwardsburg, Michigan. From 1996-2009, they lived in Bonita Springs, FL, where they had wintered for many years.
Robert worked in sales in the manufacturing housing industry until he retired in 1991. He was a member of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, St. Joseph Lodge 45 F & AM, Orak Shrine of Michigan City, South Bend Eagles, Elkhart Elks and Edwardsburg American Legion #365. He was also a 35 year member of Four Lakes Country Club in Edwardsburg, where he served as Vice President.
Memorial services for Robert will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 2, 2015 in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Ray Owens, Spiritual Care Coordinator of Great Lakes Caring Hospice, will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm Wednesday in the funeral home. Everyone is also invited to a gathering immediately following services at the Edwardsburg American Legion #365.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Waterford at Edison Lakes for their excellent care and kindness.
