William “Bill” Fredrick Roe

July 27, 1924 – September 20, 2015

MISHAWAKA – William “Bill” Fredrick Roe, 91, residing in Mishawaka, Indiana passed away at 2:14 PM Sunday, September 20, 2015 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.

Bill was born on July 27, 1924 in South Bend to the late Noel J. Roe and Loretto (Kissell) Roe and has been a lifelong resident of this area.  Bill graduated from South Bend Central Catholic High School, where he served as President of his 1942 Graduating Class.  Bill was the last surviving member of his class. He worked for Wheelabrator Corp. for 31 years, then for Michiana Delivery until he was 80 years of age.

Bill proudly served our country in the United States Navy and was a World War II Navy Veteran.  He was also a member of the VFW Mishawaka Post 360; American Legion; and Knights of Columbus.  Following his service to our country and back home in Indiana, Bill attended a dance one evening at the Palais Royale in South Bend.  He said, “I saw the girl in the pretty red dress and asked her to dance.”  And Bill and Mildred have been together ever since.  On September 3, 1949 in South Bend, Bill was united in marriage to Mildred (McCartney) Roe, who survives.  They were married for 66 wonderful years and blessed with three children, Martha Cressy, Peggy Siri-Stokes, and Mary Jane Weber.  Bill attended St. Anthony De Padua Catholic Church where he volunteered in several ministries and served as an usher for many years.  He was a huge fan of Notre Dame Football and an avid Chicago Cubs Baseball fan.   The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Bill’s caregiver, Susan, for her wonderful care.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Mildred Roe of Mishawaka; three daughters, Martha (Guy) Cressy of South Bend, Peggy (Jim) Siri-Stokes of Granger, and Mary Jane (David) Weber of Mishawaka; six grandchildren, Joe Siri, Jennifer Cressy, Tony (Tracy) Siri, Amy Cressy, Matthew Cressy, and Andy Weber.  Along with his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Julia Smith, and his brother, Robert “Bob” Roe.
