I met Doni in a ceramics class at the South Bend Museum of Art. She was such a warm, delightful woman & we shared a love of cats. I am saddened to hear of her passing and am very sorry for your loss. I would have liked to visit her at home one day to see all of her feline artwork. We will miss her.

Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Doni on the loss of a beautiful soul and gifted artist. She will be forever remembered for the inspiration she gave to other artists, and the memories she created through her work - especially at the many Garden Walks where she volunteered to paint in the gardens.

Our Deepest Sympathies,
The Staff and Board of the
South Bend Museum of Art

Dear Hoevel Family,
I remember many days of being accepted into your home as a child. You welcomed me and made me feel like I was part of a big family. I have missed contact with all of you and will unfortunately be flying out of town on Friday. Know that my prayers are with you all!

Hi Roberta, that was such a nice thing to say. I remember our years together and what fun I had at your house, your mom was so creative and we did such great crafts. I remember her as a spit fire! Mom was totally active and an on the go painter up until a few months before she died. It was all quite sudden and really no cause of death, but she lived life to the fullest till close to the end, which is a blessing. Your prayers for her are greatly appreciated. Love your old friend Kim who now lives in Kalamazoo with husband Gary and son Mac, who just finished his second year at U of Michigan and Hana who is a Junior at Loy Norrix High School in Kalamazoo.

I first got to know Doni through the Northern Indiana Artists. Later I was her instructor in ceramics at the South Bend Museum of Art. Doni was just a lovely person. We all enjoyed being around her. She had such great energy and enthusiasm! We will certainly miss her.
Her Husband, Ben, was my high school History teacher. He was my favorite high school teacher and one of the best teachers I 've had anywhere.
My condolences on the loss of both of these beautiful people.
