SOUTH BEND - William (Bill) Roy Shoufler went home to the Lord on May 5, 2016, with his three favorite girls at his side. Bill was born July 31, 1938 in Moline, Illinois to Doris and Revois Benbrook. Bill's dad died in a car accident about a year later. In 1941, Doris married Lawrence Shoufler and he then adopted both Bill and his brother, Ben.
Bill grew up in Southern California, graduated from Jordan High School in Long Beach. He served his country in the United States Marine Reserves. He worked various jobs before finding his niche as a plumber. Bill was a handyman “extraordinaire”, he could make, repair, restore or rejuvenate just about anything. Working with his hands was always a delight for Bill and you could always hear him whistling or humming as he worked.
For Bill, some of the best years in Oregon were spent farming. He and his family spent time raising dairy heifers and sheep. He enjoyed tending to the chickens, rabbits, goats; he was a city guy turned farmer!
He loved to serve others and did so in many ways. While living in Oregon, he served on the Colton School Board for six years. He was overjoyed in his work of Prison Ministry, sharing the Lord with others. Many people from California to Indiana have been the recipient of Bill's talents. Bill's love of the Lord, brought him and his family to Indiana in 1980, they moved across the country to join the Christian Community, People of Praise.
In 1966, he married his wife Kathy, she survives with their four children: Wendy (Portland, OR), Tina Niver (Steve) Lancaster, SC, Bob (Tracy) Avondale, AZ and Scott (Ali) Mexico, four grandchildren, Kyle, Corrine, Caleb and Carlee along with many nieces and nephews, who will treasure his memory. Bill was proceeded in death by his parents and only sibling, Ben.

A wake to celebrate Bill will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the People of Praise Community Center. A Mass will be held at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church; 54191 N Ironwood Rd, South Bend, IN on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 11 a.m.. Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
