August 13, 1941 ~ March 1, 2015 (age 73) 73 Years Old

John F. Brothers, 73, residing in South Bend, IN, passed away March 1, 2015 at Community Hospital, Kokomo, IN.  He was born on August 13, 1941 in South Bend, IN to the late Elmer and Ernestine (Lawyer) Brothers and remained a lifelong resident.

On August 1, 1964 in South Bend, IN at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church he married Kathryn, who survives.

John honorably served in the United States Army from 1963-1965.  He retired in 2006 from Adams Engineering after 40 years of services as a tool and die maker. Since 2007 he has worked for The South Bend-Mishawaka Auto Auction. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka; the South Bend Bowling League where he served as secretary for nine years; South Bend Eagles #435, Indiana State Bowling Association where he served as past president; and was a lifetime member of United States Bowling Congress.

John is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Kathryn Brothers; two daughters, Christine (Shack) McDaniel of Kathleen, GA and Michele (Eric) Mroczek of Mishawaka; three sons, Brian Brothers of Cheyenne, WY, Patrick (Monica) Brothers of Chicago, IL and Kevin (Melissa) Brothers of Virginia Beach, VA.  He is also survived by five grandchildren, Courtney, Ehren, Brandon, Katie and Liam; two sisters, Rosemary Belakovich of South Bend and Sister Elaine Brothers of Mishawaka; and two sisters-in-law, Nancy Brothers of Mishawaka and Verna Brothers of Leesburg, FL.  His sister, Katherine Graveel Berger and two brothers, William and Richard Brothers preceded John in death.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, March 6, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, IN.  Military graveside services  will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI.  Friends may visit with the family from 4-8:00 PM Thursday at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2518 Mishawaka Ave, South Bend, where a rosary will be recited at 4:00 PM.
