Welcome to the memorial page for

John "Kenneth" Duncan

August 18, 1930 ~ November 23, 2015 (age 85) 85 Years Old
John “Kenneth” Duncan, 85 years old, passed away at 10:04 a.m. on Monday, November 23, 2015 at his home.  Mr. Duncan was born on August 18, 1930 in Detroit, MI to the late John Alexander and Louise (Griffin) Duncan.  He has lived the past two years in South Bend.

Ken met Virginia “Ginny” Young on a blind date to the first football game of his freshman year at Michigan State University.  They married on November 22, 1951 in East Lansing, Michigan.  Ginny preceded him in death on March 1, 2001.

Ken had a successful career at S.C. Johnson Wax, Ekco Housewares, and Mr. Coffee, bringing consumer products such as Edge shaving cream, Favor floor polish, Baker’s Secret, and the Mr. Coffee Ice Tea maker to market.

After Ginny’s death Ken spent his time writing political poetry, on the road visiting family, and dining out with friends.

Ken’s great interest in how things work--mechanically or politically--left him knowledgeable on a wide range of topics which made him an informed and entertaining conversationalist.  These interests also led him to improvise numerous devices to make daily tasks easier or tailor his environment to his liking.

What Ken’s family and friends will remember most, though, is the time he spent with each of us, sharing ideas and exploring interests, his or ours, together.

Mr. Duncan is survived by his two daughters, Tricia (Brian) Heidkamp of South Bend and Susie Duncan of Champaign, IL; one son, Steve (Susan Kerr) Duncan of Milwaukee, WI; five grandchildren, Duncan Heidkamp, Callan Heidkamp, Ginny Duncan, Elena Duncan, and Riley Duncan; and one sister, Anis Stenger of DeKalb, IL.

Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend.  Words of remembrance and sharing will begin at 1:00 p.m.  A private burial will be held by the family.

Contributions in memory of John Kenneth Duncan may be donated to Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN  46545.  Online condolences may be offered to the Duncan family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
