December 25, 1945 – November 29, 2015

MISHAWAKA – Carol Joy Garrett Knapp, 69, passed away at 6:11 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2015 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family.  Carol was born on December 25, 1945 in Walla Walla, Washington to the late Eugene David and Itha Ozell Garrett.  On June 16, 1963 in Alamo Revival Center, San Antonio, TX Carol married Raymond Wilbur Knapp, who survives. 

Along with her loving husband of 52 years, Raymond, she is survived by three daughters, Martha (David) Keil of Pearland, TX, Elizabeth Joy (Timothy) Brinkley of Rowlett, TX and Patrisha (Adam) Pursehouse of Mishawaka; one son, Eugene “Gene” (Carmen) Knapp of Mishawaka; eight grandchildren, Philip Keil, Alex (Hannah) Keil, Michael Brinkley, Aimee Brinkley, Alyssa (Ross) Seanor, Ethan Johnson, Noah Johnson and Melody Pursehouse; her sister, Rebecca Ruth (Omar) Garrett Dalumpines of Antipolo. Philippines; her brother, David E. (Marilyn) Garrett of Lincoln, Nebraska; and her stepmother, Harriett Garrett of Calais, Maine.

Carol’s parents, Eugene and Itha were evangelistic ministers and she and her sister, Rebecca and their husbands have continued their work.  Carol and Raymond have served as missionaries in the Philippines for 19 years, Taiwan for 6 years and Hong Kong for 26 years. Carol and Raymond built a seminary in Mindanao, Philippines where they trained pastors and teachers. Carol was instrumental in developing the curriculum that was taught to the students.  Through the Dorcas Church Building Program they started over 300 churches, built 24 churches and now there are over 1000 churches.

A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend.  Rev. Curtis Bond of Brooksville United Methodist Church will officiate.  Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home prior to services.  Cremation will follow services and burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
