September 2, 1918 – July 26, 2016

Dorothy Mable McGinnis, 97 years old, passed away at 2:20 pm Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Your Home Instead, South Bend, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family.  Dorothy was born on September 2, 1918 in Centerville, Iowa to the late Wiley E. and Laura Dooley Campbell.  In 1955 Dorothy moved to Indiana from Iowa.  On August 18, 1957, Dorothy was united in marriage to James Henry McGinnis at Lowell Heights Church of Christ in Mishawaka, Indiana.  James preceded her in death in 1991.

Dorothy was a member of Deer Run Church of Christ, South Bend for several years, then at Northway Church of Christ, South Bend.  Dorothy was an active, faithful, passionate Christian worker for the Lord.  She worked tirelessly all her years as a great prayer warrior, taught Sunday School, played the piano, and witnessed to countless souls.  

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Gloria (Jeff) Hudak of Granger; sons, John (Winona) McGinnis and James (Sharonald) McGinnis both of South Bend; stepdaughters, Rosemary McGinnis of South Bend, Evelyn Richards of Mishawaka, Carol (Morris) Wash of Ava, Missouri, and Janet Rybinski of Fruitland, Florida; eleven grandchildren, Amber (Eric) Clay, Stacy McGinnis, Katie (Jordan) Tanger, Joshua McGinnis, Steve (Erica) McGinnis, Jonathon (Samantha) McGinnis, Michael (Rachel) McGinnis, Sarah Schrader, Jeffrey (Alissa) Hudak, Matthew Hudak and Lindsey (Tim) Williams; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren. 

Dorothy was preceded in death by her grandson; Troy Bailey, sister; Opal Campbell, her brother; Floyd Campbell, stepdaughter; Betty McGinnis, and stepson; Robert McGinnis.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN.  Rev. David Honeycutt will officiate.  Burial will follow in Independence Cemetery, Medaryville, Indiana. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 – 6:00 pm Friday in the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Saturday.
