Jackie LeRoy McMurtrie

Jackie Leroy McMurtrie, 84, of South Bend, IN passed away at 11:40 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017.  He was born on June 18, 1932 in Terre Haute, IN to the late Ernest Ray and Flossie (Hart) McMurtrie.  On November 5, 1966 in Walkerton, IN, he was united in marriage to the former Marlyn Patrick who preceded him in death on February 8, 2004.

Jackie is survived by two daughters, Cynthia L. Jolley of South Bend, IN and Penny Jo Brennan of Phoenix, AZ; three sons, David McMurtrie, James (Laura) McMurtrie and Douglas (Debra) McMurtrie, all of South Bend, IN; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-seven great grandchildren and sister, Joann McMurtrie of Mishawaka, IN.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marilyn; son, George N. McMurtrie; grandson, Jason Jolley, sisters, Dorothy, Genevieve, Marguerite, Gladys and May and brothers, Harold and Hugh McMurtrie.

Jackie lived most of his life in South Bend.  He served his country honorably in the United States Army.  He worked as a pipefitter and foreman for Nipsco retiring in 1991 after forty-one years of service.  Jackie was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

A Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Southlawn Cemetery, 61300 U.S. 31 South, South Bend.  Rev. Robert Geans will officiate.  Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel is assisting the family.
