Julianne Marie Berndt, 81, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday February 2, 2016 at Trailpoint Village.  She was born on December 29, 1934 in South Bend to the late Otto J. and Julia H. (Foldenauer) Berndt.

She is survived by her brothers, Rev. Alan Berndt of St. Meinrad, IN and Richard (Angie) Berndt, and sister-in-law Gertrude Berndt of South Bend, and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Joan G. Berndt, Jane (Zane) Trinkley, and Margaret M. (Victor) Couch, and her brothers, Paul (Lea) Berndt and Wilmer Berndt.

Julianne was a member of St. Matthew Cathedral, the Daughters of Isabella, the Oblate of Blue Cloud Abbey and the Rosary Society.  She fondly remembered being a flower girl at her eldest brother's ordination ceremony and spoke of that day often.  We all marveled at her memory too; she had 39 nieces and nephews and remembered the birth date of each one and would mention it each time they got together.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Matthew Cathedral, 1015 E Dayton St, South Bend, IN on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 1:30 p.m.  Rev. Msgr. Michael Heintz will officiate.   Burial will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, 375 W Cleveland Rd, Granger, IN.

Contributions in memory of Julianne Berndt may be offered to St. Meinrad Archabbey, 200 Hill Drive, St. Meinrad, IN  47577 or St. Matthew Cathedral in South Bend .
