I often wondered why we were doing what we were doing in our English class. It wasn't until college that I realized, gee, she got us ready for the next phase of our life. Enjoyed her as a teacher and actually learned something from her. I think she would have been surprised at her students' success.

To the family Miss Waterman,
I wanted to express my deepest sympathy on the passing of Miss Waterman. I had the pleasure of having her my Senior Year (1970-1971) for English. She was such a good teacher and cared so much about the students. Our Junior year were the riots at school. Our Senior Year was such a great move forward from the year before. She encouraged all of us to study and work hard. She had a full life and touched many of her students. My thoughts are with you all.

We all loved playing golf throughout the years with June. We are sorry to hear of her passing. She was always happy playing golf and walked the course for many years. She has and will always be missed.

I was fortunate enough to have Miss Waterman during my sophomore year at Central High School. I remember her dry humor. She was all business and I learned a lot. WITH my exposure to her teaching, I graduated with a BS and MS from IU in elementary education. I spent 40 years teaching in this community. One day I visited June at Riley HS. We had a great conversation. I later accidentally saw her in downtown Mishawaka as she crossed the street to her appointment with an attorney. Bless you, Miss Waterman. I remember our literature discussions as June called on students, asked questions, and marked in fountain pen in her gradebook. You were one of my many teacher mentors.

Miss Waterman was my English teacher in 7th and 8th grade at Central Jr. High.
She instilled in me a true love for creative writing, and reading Classics.
I was fortunate enough to be placed in her class again in high school. She so inspired
Me that I chose English as a minor in college.
In 1969, as a new teacher in South Bend, I encountered Miss Waterman at LaSalle High School. I was thrilled, and thanked her for being such a great roll model.
She was one of the very best!
At my 50th Class of '63 Reunion... I wrote about her in our remembrances from Central.
Thank You, Miss Waterman.

Sincerely, Sandy Raabe Jennings
