Leta G. Seal

February 1, 1926 ~ November 17, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Leta Seal, 91, passed away at 6:15 a.m. Friday, November 17, 2017 at St. Paul’s after a long bout with Alzheimer's.  Leta was born on February 1, 1926 in South Bend to Arthur R. Clark & Goldie O. (Nighswander) Clark.  She was preceded in death by her parents & brother, J. R.  Clark. On March 25, 1950, Leta married Charles Seal @ Ridgedale Presbyterian Church in South Bend.  Charles preceded her in death on 3/25/96.

Surviving are her children: Bruce of Fla. Janelle Travers of NY and Susan Smith  of AZ.  Also  surviving,  Grandson Peter, Great grandchildren Finley & Oakland.

Leta was a lifetime resident of the area.  She graduated from Riley High School in 1944 and from Purdue in 1948 where she majored in Home Economics.  She spent an extra  year in an internship @ Allegheny General Hospital in Pennsylvania.  In 1947, Leta became a member of Theta Alpha Phi, a national honorary dramatic fraternity. She was involved in many plays known as PLAYSHOP at Purdue.  She filled many jobs during each play.  After returning from her internship, Leta worked @ Memorial Hospital in the food services department, overseeing the many  duties associated with the job.  Her next job was Director of Food Services for the South Bend School Corporation.  There were 7 high school & more than 20 grade schools for which Leta was responsible.  She was devoted to making sure that students had the best food that each kitchen could produce.  Leta retired in 1992 in order to take care of Chuck at home.  Leta was a founding member of the Indiana Dietetic Association and received an award for 50 years of service,  She worked for the Food Bank for many years.  Another one of her goals was insuring a free lunch for all children. 

Thank you for the wonderful staff at St. Paul for taking such good care of Leta. She will be greatly missed.   

A Memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, November 20, 2017 at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN.  Pastor Don Neeley will officiate.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.  Burial will take place at a later date at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend, IN.
