Oliver Ross Rockwell

Oliver Ross “Rocky” Rockwell, 91, of Lakeville, IN, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at his home. Oliver was born in South Bend, IN on September 21, 1926 to the late Charles William and Nellie Ruth (Clemens) Rockwell. On August 2, 1947 he married his loving wife of 70 years, Jeanne Ellen (Hunt) Rockwell, at Ridgedale Presbyterian Church in South Bend.

 After graduating from Riley High School, Oliver served honorably in the United States Navy during WWII and in the Korean War. Later, he worked for the United States Postal Service for over 40 years, retiring as the Postmaster of Lakeville. He attended Maple Grove United Methodist Church in South Bend. Having a love of old cars, he was a member of the Pioneer Auto Association and won many trophies with his Model A and Packard.

Oliver enjoyed his retirement and had many adventures. A racing fan, he was able to do a ride along at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in a Nascar and Irl racing car as well as fly in a World War II Warbird,  taking the controls for a short while, but mostly he enjoyed visits from his family.

Oliver is survived by his wife Jeanne, two daughters, Michelle (Edwin) Blackman of Pickerington, OH and Sherri (Dennis) Pauszek of South Bend; two sons, Michael Rockwell of Burleson, TX and James (Paula) Rockwell of Osceola, IN; foster son, Billy Rockwell of Bremen, IN; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Timothy, Hilary, Ryan, Heather, Denise, Christopher, Jami, and James; 26 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.  Along with his parents, Oliver was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Stephanie.

Per his request, there will be no services for Oliver.
