Phyllis Edith Travis

June 30, 1928 ~ August 17, 2016 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Phyllis E. Travis, residing in South Bend, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the Milton Home.  She was 88 years old.   She was born June 30, 1928 in Mishawaka, IN, a daughter of the late Ralph & Irene Pearl (Jeffery) Coon, and has remained a lifelong resident of this community.  On September 24, 1947 in Mishawaka, Phyllis was united in marriage to Ernest Wallace Travis.  He passed away in 1972.  She was also preceded in death by her son Samuel Lee Travis in 2011, her brother, Ralph Coon, Jr. in 2009, and sister, Mary Plummer in 2014.

Mrs. Travis is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Valerie & Arno Jellison of South Bend, two grandchildren, Matthew Jellison of Phoenix, AZ; and Jennifer Jellison of South Bend.  She is also survived by a very special aunt, Betty Burke of South Bend, who was just like a sister to her, and a very special sister-in-law, Juanita Coon of Flint, MI.  Phyllis is also survived by many nieces and nephews who will miss her very much.  Phyllis was blessed with additional "bonus" grandchildren, Bill (Joy) Jellison, Mark (Teresa) Jellison, Guy (Kerry) Jellison, Robert Jellison, Larry (Rhonda) Jellison, and Karen (Jellison) (Roger) Gropp, who she loved very much.  A special thank you to Karen, with whom Phyllis shared a birthday, and for all the extra care she gave to grandma Travis.

Mrs. Travis was employed with  Ball Band-Uniroyal Corp. for eighteen years, until the company closed.  Following that she worked for the South Bend Community School Corp. for seventeen years.  She retired in July 1990.  She was a member of Calvary Chapel in Granger.

She was known for her gentle nature and peaceable spirit.  Her motto always was "If you want friends, then you must make yourself friendly."  She lived what she preached, and was loved by all who knew her.  She was a loving mother, who always put her family and God first.  She was committed to the Lord, and was faithful to praying for her family and others.  She always kept a positive outlook and remained kind and sweet, even though her health obstacles were many.  We will all miss her very much.

A very special thank you to those at the Milton Home who so lovingly took care of Phyllis.  She loved you all and always said that she couldn't complain because you were all so good to her.  Also, the family wishes to thank all of the Hospice people that helped take care of mother.  Your kindness and concern were so appreciated by the family.  A special thank you to her Pastor, Bob Moore.  He was a faithful visitor to mother.  She loved and respected him and always looked forward to his visits.  His faithfulness to one of his flock not only meant a lot to her, but also to her family.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 22, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend.  Rev. Bob Moore of Calvary Chapel  will officiate.  Graveside services and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.    The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel.
