Today I was going through my college papers (purging) but kept my exams from Mr. Burnett's Marketing class. He was far and away my favorite professor at IUSB. So incredibly smart and what a great sense of humor!! I always enjoyed hearing his stories in class! I just now looked him up on google and saw he had passed away (I live in VA now). I am so sorry for this loss in your family. May he rest in peace. Suzzane (Mr. Burnett always spelled my name with 2 "z's)

We are so sorry to be reading this about my greatest teacher and mentor. Met Ray at IUSB in 1971 and took every class he taught. Later had the pleasure of building a house for he and Betty. From that time till about two years ago, we had lunch with Ray. A bowl of soup lots of crackers and conversation from school to politics to anything in between. My condolences to the family. He was a great man and will be missed by many people.

I was in town visiting my mother when I saw Mr. Burnett's obituary. I wasn't sure it was him until I saw those twinkling blue eyes! I took many of his Marketing classes at IUSB at night in the late 70's. He had so much energy and enthusiasm at the end of the day that I am a little daunted to think about what he must have been like during the day! I will never forget his wit and wisdom - he truly had an influence in forming me as a business professional and I cannot thank him enough. May God's blessings be with his family during their time of loss. I know he will be deeply missed.

The absolute highlight of my education at IUSB in the 80's was Professor Ray Burnett. All his students knew that he had a firm grasp on how business ran in the "real world", not what the textbooks said. He combined his practical, pragmatic approach with a healthy, hilarious sense of humor. Whenever anyone asks me about my education, I invariably refer to Professor Burnett as a shining example of the best things I learned in my education. Rest in Peace, Sir. May God cherish your presence in Heaven.

Kathy and Family,
So sorry about the passing of your dad. When I saw his picture in the paper today, all these memories came flooding back from the many times we all spent at your house in 7th and 8th grade. He was always around, kidding with us, and making us all feel so welcome. Make he rest in peace.

To the Family of Ray Burnett,
I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your father. Ray was a very special guy and a mentor that I will always remember with great affection. I was one of his Students back in the early 70's but continued my association with him all these years. I had the privilege of sharing lunches with Ray over the years and always enjoyed his company. Your Dad always cared about others and how they were doing. I will miss him and the special fellowship we shared.
God Bless all of you at this difficult time.

I had the pleasure of having Ray as the best teacher that I have ever had. I was working full time and going to class at night at IUSB.I had just returned from Vietnam when I first met Ray. He was the toughest teacher I knew but he had the ability to bring out the best in everyone. I was in pharmaceutical sales for 25 years and used things that Ray taught me everyday.Ray broke his leg playing handball but came to class in a full cast in the winter. He said if he could make it to class so could we.Ray was an inspiration to all.

Many years ago I met Ray as an evening student at IUSB in South Bend. I was struggling trying to decide on a future plan in some aspect of the business world and with Ray's support and encouragement I finished a very successful career in marketing and sales. Ray had a special style, a great wit, and always had the time for a helping hand. During my career I had the fortunate opportunity to work with Ray again as he was on an advisory board as a marketing consultant for Koontz Wagner Electric. What a true gentleman and a friend to work with. Over the years I thought about Ray as one person who did make a difference in my life, and I'm sure I'm not alone. I offer my condolences to the family and friends of a very special man!

One day we will once again be teammates sharing another handball game.
Filling your shoes will be a difficult chore for anyone who follows.
