Richard C. Highland

On Friday, Nov. 17th, 2017, the world lost an amazing husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, but heaven gained an amazing angel. Richard Carlton Highland took his final ride with the angels to join his loving mother and son in paradise. Richard “Rick” Highland was born October, 23, 1951. When he was 15, he met the love of his life, Kathaleen Watkins, and they married on October 9, 1971. They recently celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary and still look at each other with the same loving eyes as when they were 15. They went on to raise three beautiful children and two exceptional grandchildren. Rick enjoyed a number of things including spending time with his grandchildren, learning and teaching martial arts, riding his Harley and collecting anything related to Coca Cola. He spent his free time helping anyone who asked, whether it was putting in floors, fixing a roof, or helping his wife with the gardening.

Rick is survived by his wife, Kathaleen, his daughter, Tabetha, his son, Robby, his grandchildren, Aalyssa, Isaac, and Leah, his daughter-in-law, Michelle, his siblings, Runae (Dan) Hysell, Marsha St. Cin (Larry) Foust, Robin (Damon) Flaugher, George “Bill” Hurley, and Craig Highland, as well as his in-laws, Bob Watkins, Lance (Jim) Watkins, and Tony (Tina) Watkins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and LaVerne Hurley, his son, Randy Highland, and his two brothers, John Riley Hurley and Robert T. “Poke” Hurley, Jr. He was loved by anyone who met him and will be missed dearly.

Funeral Services will be held at the Guisinger Chapel within Palmer Funeral Home, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, IN  at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017.
