SOUTH BEND – Richard G. Schultheis, 90, residing in South Bend, IN passed away at 12:30 PM Friday, July 10, 2015 at his home.  Richard was born on December 5, 1924 in Millville, New Jersey to Richard and Mary (Rupp) Schultheis. Richard grew up in Owosso, Michigan and graduated from Owosso High School. Following school, he proudly served our country in the United States Navy during World War II, serving from 1943-1946, receiving an honorable discharge. Upon his return, he attended Michigan State College, graduating with a B.S Business Degree.  Richard worked for many years with Traveler’s Insurance Co. in Chicago, IL and later moved to South Bend in 1956, where he worked as a Supervising Field Auditor for Traveler’s. Richard worked with Traveler’s Insurance Co. for 29 1/2 years, retiring in 1986.
Richard married Irma J. (Sieber) Baker on July 13, 1992. They enjoyed traveling and touring with the Mayflower Tour Company. They also enjoyed dancing together.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Irma, and his three step-children, Larry (Sandy) Baker of Newnan, GA, David (Julie) Baker of Osceola, IN, and Tammy Baker (Julio) Martinez of Mishawaka, IN; five step-grandchildren, Scott (Liz) Baker, Jeff (Tabitha) Baker, Aubrey (Jon) Edwards, Alese McDonald, and Jason Baker; five great-grandchildren, Stephanie Baker, Andrew Baker, Jonathan Baker, Reid Baker, and Nora Edwards; sister, Marilyn Bronson of Lawrence, SC, three nieces, Marcia Bronson, Diane (Jim) Williams, Janice (Jerry) Talian; nephew, Steve (Laura) Bronson; two great nephews, one great niece; other family members and a host of friends.Richard enjoyed bowling and golfing. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #235 in South Bend and the American Legion of Owosso, MI. Richard was a member of First Presbyterian Church, South Bend for many years, where he served on the Board of Deacons and served as an usher.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mary Schultheis; sister, Betty Reid; brother-in-laws, Wally Reid and Jim Bronson; cousin, Richard Ott, and Richard’s wife, Dollie, formerly of Owossa, MI.
The family would like to express their appreciation to their neighbors and friends for their many prayers, cards, and kindness. Also, a big thank you to Dr. Shaya Mokfi and “Heart to Heart Hospice.”

Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN 46601.  Memorial services for Richard G. Schultheis will be at 6:00 PM Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615, where friends may gather with the family two hours prior to services. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, July 17, 2015 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Owosso, MI. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
