Ruth M. Eckrich

Ruth M. Eckrich, age 81, of South Bend, IN passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Hamilton Grove Communities in New Carlisle, IN.  Ruth dedicated 29 years in the convent as a Sister of St. Joseph, the 3rd Order of St. Francis before working as the Executive Secretary to the Chancellor of Ivy Tech, South Bend, for 19 years, retiring in 2007.

Ruth was born April 23, 1936 in Neenah, WI to William and Ursula (Klassen) Eckrich, who preceded her in death. She moved to the South Bend area in 1977 after living in Evanston, IL. Ruth is survived by her niece, Sister Sandra Weinke, a School Sister of Notre Dame in Milwaukee, WI and friend, Patricia Walsh of South Bend. She is preceded in death by her sisters Marion Hedberg and Amanda Weinke and brother Isadore “Lou” Eckrich.

Ruth was a choir member at St. Monica’s Catholic Church. She also volunteered for Animal Rescue, and she was a Peke-A-Tzu Rescue “Foster Parent.”

A funeral mass for Ruth will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at St. Monica’s Catholic Church, 222 W Mishawaka Ave, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Father Chris Lapp will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN. Friends may visit with the family half an hour prior to the service at the church.
