Elsie C. Huys

Elsie C. Huys, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2016 at Healthwin Specialized Care Facility of South Bend.  She was ninety-four years old.  She was born May 2, 1922 in South Bend, IN; a daughter of Alfons and Mary (DePuydt) DeBuysser.

On February 14, 1942 in South Bend, Elsie was united in marriage to Edmond J. Huys.  They enjoyed fifty-five years of marriage until his passing on December 9, 1997.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Frances M. McKesson, as well as her parents, Alfons and Mary and two brothers, Joseph and Frances DeBuysser.

Elsie is survived by her two daughters, Donna M. (John) Fairres of Walkerton, IN and Marcia M. (Bruce) Hummel of South Bend; son, Michael E. Huys of Mishawaka, IN; six grandchildren along with twelve great grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and extended family members.

Elsie was a graduate of Washington High School in South Bend and attended Christ the King Catholic Church.  The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the Administration and staff at Healthwin, for the wonderful care they gave to Elsie.  She enjoyed the time she spent there and the many friends that she made through the various daily activities.

No services are planned at this time.  She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Edmond at Highland Cemetery.
