Mary was a dear, sweet person I've had the pleasure to know both as a student and a teacher. I first met Mary when she taught Spanish at St. Joe High School in the early 1980s. Then, about seven years later, I worked with her very closely when she, Julie Hudkins, and I helped to create the curriculum for the new 8th grade foreign language program at Schmucker Middle School. Mary (and Julie) both were tremendously helpful to me, a beginning teacher. Mary could also be a prankster, though, as she once had her students turn all of my desks upside down when I was out of my room. I returned the favor, though! She definitely had a heart of gold and would do anything asked of her. She loved her students and we all loved Mary. May you rest in peace, friend.
