Leonard Jack Cockman, age 78, of South Bend, IN formerly of Poland, Ohio, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Sanctuary at Holy Cross in South Bend. He was born on August 5, 1938 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Albert Edward and Alma Mae (Stubbs) Cockman.
Leonard proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Bushnell in Charleston, SC, and Key West, FL. and Norfolk, VA. He retired from Boardman Steel, Inc., as a welder of 38 years.
Leonard married Sandy Hunsberger (8/5/61), and together they had three children; Leonard Andrew (Cindy) of South Bend IN, Frank (Karla) of Indianapolis IN, and Candace of North Lima OH, six grandchildren Christiann (Tim) Shaw, Hunter (Melissa) MacLean, Andy Cockman, Rachel Cockman, Trent Cockman and Kevin Cockman. Leonard is also survived by one brother Edward Cockman of Bend, OR. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy in 1994.
Leonard served many years as a coach for the Poland Community Baseball Association. He was an avid record collector, loved Rock-n-Roll music and all forms of Auto racing. In retirement Leonard wintered in New Smyrna Beach, FL for many years.
