In 1968, Kent R. Palmer and his wife Dolores, owners of the Palmer Funeral Homes in North Liberty and Walkerton, sold their equity and moved to South Bend. Within the next six years, Kent acquired three funeral homes in St. Joseph County...The Orvis Funeral Home in South Bend, the Harden Funeral Home in Lakeville and the Hollis Funeral Home in River Park.

Kent sold the family business in 1995, to his sons, K. R. and Kerry Palmer. K. R. & Kerry purchased the Guisinger Chapel Funeral Home & Southlawn Cemetery in 2002 and purchased the Hickey Funeral Home in 2009. In 2012 they acquired the Manuel Funeral Home in North Liberty, IN and founded Palmer's Pet Services. In 2018 they purchased the West Chapel and in 2020 they purchased Welsheimer Funeral Homes and Bubb Funeral Chapel.
