GRANGER - Allan Gene Annis, 68, passed away at 5:30 PM on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 16, 1946 in Logansport, IN, to the late Richard E. and Edna Mae (Pickens) Annis.
Allan is survived by his loving companion of 21 years, Pamela Sysinger of Granger; daughter, Monique (Michael) Gillespie and her children, Skyler, Brianna and Bradley of Indianapolis; son, Shad (Amber) Annis and his children, Landon and Cami of Granger; Pam’s children, Yvonne Sysinger Hurt and Michael Sysinger; his sister, Sandy Annis of Kokomo and brother Robert Annis of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Annis.
Allan grew up in Logansport, IN, graduating from Logansport High School Class of 1965. There he lettered in football, wrestling, and track and finished 5th in State in Pole Vaulting. He was the senior class treasurer and the recipient of the Harrison Smith Award. Allan attended Ball State University, Muncie. He served in the United States Army. He enjoyed his career as a Sales Engineer. Allan attended Clay United Methodist Church, South Bend and was a member of American Legion.
Allan valued his many good friends. He enjoyed playing tennis and was an avid golfer. Allan played volleyball at the Battell Center. He coached soccer and played through his 50’s. He loved Beach Boys music and enjoyed ballroom dancing with Pam. Allan loved working in his yard for enjoyment, complete with ponds and waterfalls. He also loved Christmas and decorating.
Allan loved cats and leaves behind “Heidi”. He also loved his birds and was nicknamed “The Bird Man of Granger”. Allan hosted the Michiana Elite Bird Fair at Bethel College every March to benefit the Potawatomi
Zoo and Endangered Bird Species.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Palmer Funeral Home – Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Rev. Greg Crump will officiate. Military Graveside services will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 PM Tuesday and one hour prior to services on Wednesday in the funeral home.
