Edwin M. Benjamin

Edwin M. Benjamin, 68, of South Bend, IN, loving husband and father, passed away at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Hospice House, South Bend, IN. He was born on July 2, 1946 in Sparrow Bush, NY to Edwin M. Benjamin and Marian (Sheehan) Hockenberry.

Mr. Benjamin loved to travel as much as possible which took him to many places in the United States and around the world. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1965-1968; mm/2 Brown Water/Navy/Swift Boats. He worked for thirty-two years at Bell Telephone, and in every spare moment he was satisfying his wanderlust on his motorcycle. He was also a member of the V.F.W. in FL.

On May 12, 2007 in South Bend, IN he married Sandra (Goodsell) Hale-Benjamin. Mr. Benjamin is survived by his wife, Sandra Hale Benjamin; daughter, Bernadette Benjamin of Portland, OR; two stepdaughters, Rebecca Hessling of Panama City Beach, FL and Jessica Hale of South Bend, IN; three stepsons, Clayton (Sherri) Hale, Jr, of FL, Millard (Goldie) Hale of South Bend, IN and Samuel (Carol) Hale of South Bend, IN; thirty-seven grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren. Survived by his mother Marian Benjamin-Hockenberry of Port Jervis NY, stepfather Charles Hockenberry Sr. of Sparrowbush, NY. Sister; Marian Wyman of Constableville, NY, as well as four brothers; Robert (Betty Sutton) Benjamin of Hedgesville, WV; Burr(Sharon) Benjamin of Howells, NY; Brian (Cynthia) Benjamin of Tucson, AZ, and Charles (Penny) Hockenberry of Sparrowbush, NY. Preceded in death by his father, Edwin M Benjamin Sr.; sister, Ellen Baxter; stepdaughters, Irene Roof and Mary Wiedenkofer and stepson, Michael Hale.
