Welcome to the memorial page for

Faye Alene (Vahle) Crabtree

December 6, 1929 ~ April 25, 2016 (age 86) 86 Years Old
Faye Alene Crabtree, age 86, residing in Mishawaka, Indiana, entered into eternal life to be with her Lord and Savior at 8:10 pm, Monday, April 25, 2016 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, Indiana.

Alene, as she preferred to be called, entered this life on December 6, 1929 in Worley, Kentucky, to the late Lewis C. and Anna (Keeton) Vahle. She was the fourth of four children, having two brothers and one sister.

On December 1, 1946 in Whitley City, Kentucky, Alene married Paul Crabtree, the son of the late Jess C. and Etta P. Crabtree of Stearns, Kentucky. On November 11, 1952, God gave them a beautiful baby girl, Paula Joan Crabtree Stokes. She was the joy of Alene’s life. Paula then blessed her parents with two wonderful grandsons, of whom they are so proud, and two sweet granddaughters-in-law, as well as two great granddaughters, who are also adored.

Alene is survived by the love of her life, her loving husband of 69 years, Paul; her daughter, Paula (Morris) Stokes of Mishawaka Indiana; two grandsons, Patrick (Heide) Stokes and Phillip (Kirsten) Stokes, both of Mishawaka, Indiana; and two great granddaughters, MaKenzie and Emilee Stokes. Alene also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Anna Vahle; brothers, Eugene (Frances) Vahle and John D. (Mary Jo) Vahle; and sister, Maxine (Herbert) Donaldson.

Mrs. Crabtree was employed by Kroger’s in their corporate headquarters cafeteria in Cincinnati, Ohio. She left there to go to work for the Cincinnati School System, serving as cafeteria manager for seven years. When Paul’s job moved them to Mishawaka, Indiana, she went to work for the School City of Mishawaka, again as a cafeteria manager for John Young Middle School. Alene served there for 16 years before retiring, as Paul’s work again transferred them, this time to Weaverville, North Carolina.

Alene accepted Christ as her personal Savior in 1943 at the Worley Baptist Church, Worley, Kentucky. She was currently a member of Twin City Baptist Church, Mishawaka, Indiana. She was very active in the church, serving numerous church dinners and helping wherever she could

Alene had several hobbies. Of course, number one was cooking, baking, canning and freezing. She had several dishes that were special to her family and friends, particularly her dumplings. While in North Carolina, she took up ceramics and making pine cone wreaths. She and Paul worked on many beautiful ceramic pieces for themselves and family; the most popular being a nativity set that they made together for their daughter.

Alene and Paul also loved to travel, seeing a great deal of the United States and Canada. They also enjoyed cruises to the Grand Cayman Islands, Mexico and Hawaii. Hawaii was her dream come true.

Alene loved her Lord first and foremost. He was always there with her to see her through many difficult struggles, and her faith was a great testimony to others. She also had a great love for her husband, daughter, grandsons and their wives, great granddaughters and other family members. Her life was centered around God and her family. Alene was a very loving, kind, honest and gracious person to all who knew her and will be sorely missed by all. Her faith and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
