Phyllis O. Madden, 91, residing in South Bend, passed away at 1:05 pm Friday, June 19, 2015 in Hospice House of South Bend. She was born April 4, 1924 in New Carlisle, IN to the late Morgan and Flossie (Hostetler) Manges.
On March 23, 1946 in Mishawaka, Phyllis married William B. Madden, who survives. In addition to her loving husband of 69 years, she is survived by her daughter, Janet (Larry) Bernier of LeHigh Acres, FL; sons, James (Loretta) Madden and Richard (Janis) Madden, both of South Bend and Thomas (Vanjie) Madden of Cape Coral, FL; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ina Belle Johnson and Iola Miller.
Phyllis and William lived in many Indiana cities including Mishawaka, South Bend, Plymouth, Washington, Lapaz and Ft. Wayne, as well as in Bradenton, FL. She worked in the office for the Ft. Wayne Community School Corporation as well as South Bend Community Schools, before retiring in 1986 after 16 years.
Memorial services for Phyllis will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, June 24, 2015 in the Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to services on Wednesday in the funeral home.
