Vernon E. Miller

Vernon E. Miller, age 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at his home. Vernon was a traffic manager for the South Bend Freight for 25 years, retiring in 1986.

Vernon was born on July 29, 1929 in Chicago, IL to the late Vernon O. and Grace Pearl (Clevanger) Miller. On November 8, 1950, he was married to Ruth A. (Cronkhite) Miller, who survives. Vernon is survived by his daughters Linda Sharp of Ft. Myers, FL and Terri (Miller) Wirt of Elkhart, IN; sons Jeffrey (Connie) Miller of Orange Park, FL, Vernon E. Miller, II of Elkhart, IN, and David (Vivian) Miller of Aurora, IL; fifteen grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a host of nieces and nephews; and sister Mary Kate Goodman of Texas. Vernon is preceded in death by sister Martha Sue Eitner and brothers John Miller, Fred Miller, and Walter Miller.

 A memorial service in honor of Vernon will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 12 o’clock noon at Vern’s Garden, 712 Green Pine Ct., Apt L, Mishawaka, IN 46545. A luncheon will follow at the Whispering Pines Clubhouse from 12:30-1:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Miller family in the care of Palmer Funeral Homes.
