MISHAWAKA – Winifred M. Hewitt, 101, passed away at 7:03 PM on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at her home.  She retired in 1979 after 25 years of service at Newman’s Department Store, Mishawaka, Indiana. 

Winifred was born on March 25, 1914 Indianapolis, Indiana to the late, Charles D., Sr. and Suzanna L. (Kennedy) Hoyt. She is survived by her two daughters, Bonnie S. (James) Bonham of Mishawaka, Indiana and Marsha (Anthony) Orlando of Carmel, Indiana; six grandchildren, Laura (Ted) Kirkendall, Lisa Bailey, Chuck (Kim) Bailey, Sam (Laura) Bailey, Mark Orlando and Amy (Andrew, III) Paine; and eight great-grandchildren.  One brother, Charles D. Hoyt, Jr. preceded her in death.

Winifred was a member of First Presbyterian Church, South Bend; Pi Beta Phi Fraternity at Butler University; Progress Club and Morris Park Country Club.  She played the saxophone.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 PM Saturday, February 6th at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Funeral services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park Chapel, Granger, Indiana.  Rev. Bob Vale will officiate.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Winifred M. Hewitt may be offered to Humane Society, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545; Center for Hospice, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
